THE ANTITUBERCULOSIS DRUG RIFAMPICIN IS ACTIVATED BY 2’, 5’-DIMETHYL BENZOPELARGONOLACTONE FROM THE LEAF OF Coleus atropurpureus L. BENTH

چکیده
Anti-mycobacterial bioactivity of non polar compounds from Coleus atropurpureus L. Benth was carried out. An cyclic ester terpenoid, 2’, 5’-dimethyl benzopelargonolactone has been isolated from the chloroform fraction from the leaves of Coleus atropurpureus L. Benth, and its structure was determined by spectroscopic evidences including FTIR and 2D NMR and compared to previous data. The in vitro anti-mycobacterial activities of its whole extracts, chloroform extract, and pure compound were evaluated by testing their MIC (minimal inhibitory concentration). The isolate alone was active against M. tuberculosis with MIC at concentration 200 μg/mL, and could also increase the sensitivity of this pathogen to rifampicin drug at concentration 0.5 μg/mL. These studies suggest that anti-mycobacterial 2’, 5’-dimethyl benzopelargonolactone in combination with rifampicin may play an important role for alternative treatment combination against M. tuberculosis strain H37Rv. Further studies aimed to structural modification and semisynthesis of active compound which exhibited increasing anti-mycobacterial activities, need to be carried out in the future.

Pectin esterase (PE) activities in abscission zones, other portions of leaves, and adjacent stem tissues were compared in attached leaves and abscissing petioles (previously debladed) of Coleus blumei Benth. and Phaseolus vulgaris L., cv. Canadian Wonder. Earlier findings of Osborne in bean were confirmed and changes in PE activity in coleus were shown to resemble those in bean in some respects...

Non-chemical control of plant growth is an important goal for the production of ornamental pot plants. In the present study the effects of simulated vibration on plant height and some physical and mechanical properties of Coleus stem were investigated. The study was conducted as a factorial experiment based on a completely randomized design with three replications. Vibration stresses were perfo...

Water extract of the leaves of Coleus Aromaticus Benth was tested for its diuretic activity in male albino rats. The study was carried out on normal rats using furosemide as a standard reference drug. Rats were treated with furosemide (4 mg/kg. p.o) and Coleus aromaticus (0.5 g/kg and 1.0 g/kg, p/o). Urine was collected and its volume was recorded. Urinary levels of sodium, potassium and chlori...
متن کاملSimultaneous spectrophotometric determination of Rifampicin, Isoniazid and Pyrazinamide in a single step
Three antituberculosis medications are investigated in this work consist of rifampicin, isoniazid and pyrazinamide. The ultra violet (UV) spectra of these compounds are overlapped, thus use of suitable chemometric methods are helpful for simultaneous spectrophotometric determination of them. A generalized version of net analyte signal standard addition method (GNASSAM) was used for determinatio...
